George W. Stairs

George Stairs is a portfolio manager for Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMRCo), the investment management organization of Fidelity Investments, the largest mutual fund company in the United States, the No. 1 provider of workplace retirement savings plans and a leading online brokerage firm. Mr. Stairs manages Fidelity International Value Fund and Fidelity Advisor International Value Fund. He co-manages Total International Equity Fund and Advisor Total International Equity Fund.
Mr. Stairs has 22 years of experience in the investment management industry. He assumed responsibility for the Fidelity International Value Fund and Fidelity Advisor International Value Fund at their inception in May 2006.
Prior to joining Fidelity in 2005, he spent 11 years at Putnam investments in Boston. For the last four years Mr. Stairs served as a senior equity portfolio manager in Putnam’s International Core area, with responsibility for portfolios in the developed markets outside the U.S. and in the Asia-Pacific region.
Previously, Mr. Stairs was a global equity research analyst for Valuequest Limited in Marblehead, Massachusetts covering the capital goods, chemicals, electrical equipment, oil service, paper and forest products, pharmaceuticals, and waste management sectors. He began his career in investment management in 1986 as an equity research analyst for Eaton Vance Management in Boston, where he followed aerospace, autos, capital goods, construction and electrical equipment stocks.
Mr. Stairs was awarded an Entrance Scholarship to McGill University and received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1972. He received a master of science degree in management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985. Mr. Stairs is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
